Alan, I don’t remember Mrs. Kolkmeir as 2nd grade. She did teach 3rd and 4th grade was in same room but have no memory of 4th grade! Weird. Do u remember Mrs. Baker teaching 1 and 2?

Elizabeth Comstock Miller

Sheila Kelly Jones Were you Noble Township or Waldron?  Reply: : Sheila Kelly Jones, Waldron

Sandy Shaw

I began teaching at Waldron in 1975-76. I was walking the halls one day, looking at the old class pictures and saw my next-door neighbor’s picture and name. Ruby Neeb, class of 1921. What a surprise! I wish she had still been living at the time. I’m sure she would have had some good stories to share with me!

Sheila Kelly Jones

Michael Hewitt , Wow! I’m impressed! Michael Hewitt, I don't have that many memories of those days, but have always been grateful for the education I received. Mr. Severs was a big inspiration, instilling an appreciation of language and grammar. That was a big help after joining the Air Force and becoming a linguist (Albanian, Italian, Arabic, Russian, Czech, and German). All that sentence diagramming finally paid off! me and selecting the options from the toolbar.

I was not born and raised here, I did not go to school here. However, we bought our house here in town 27 years ago and raised our daughters here. And I have worked at the Waldron Conservancy District with Ron Fuchs for 13 years.

I attended 12 years at Waldron, graduating in 1965. My 1st and 2nd-grade teacher was Mrs. Baker, of whom I know little other than she was my teacher. back then there were 2 classes in one room. I was a little ADD back then. I hope I wasn’t too much trouble. Grades 3+4 my teacher was Naomi Kolkmier. Her son Bill was in my class. She had 2 older children also at Waldron. It’s strange how little I remember about grade school.... I remember lunchtime in the old school basement, a depressing place. My mother, Dorothy Kelly, was a cook then.  In those days we had a formal Christmas lunch in the gym with all grades. Myrtle Tolley and her music classes provided entertainment. We all looked forward to it. We danced in the gym at lunchtime if it was raining. I remember the playground and the death machine called The Bell. There were a lot of injuries on that death machine!

Sheila Kelly Jones Kolkmeier.. She was my grandmother and was a great teacher to us, too. (I’m Mary Alice’s daughter.)Sheila Kelly Jones

Dorene Whitacre

Sheila Kelly Jones, I remember that Bell. The first-grade teacher made me jump when I was 6 from it when teens got on and we're making it go high and hit while they were standing up. I was hanging on for dear life and when it struck I nearly flew off but the first-grade teacher yelled at me to jump. Not a nice thing to do to a frightened little girl but I jumped without getting hit on the head by it on the way down.

I spent my 4 high school years at WHS. I loved every minute of it. Our class of '65' was the best!!! I remember our graduation and the trip to Washington D.C. Our class was the last of the graduates to go. GO MOHAWKS!!

Terry Nicholson

My mom, Maxine Yeager graduated from WHS in 1933 I think and she always liked the math and shorthand she learned. I attended Waldron school from 1954 until 1961 when I moved to Shelbyville. Loved my time at Waldron school and played every sport they had. Favorite teachers were Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. LeMasters.

Kelli Warner

I did like the fall festival we had at the high school with all the carnival games.

Lyman Thompson

Sheila Kelly Jones,  Pretty sure your 4th-grade teacher was my Mom, Mrs. Thompson. It was a royal pain to be the ‘teacher’s kid’! I never got to do anything special or get away with anything!

Terry Nicholson: Lyman Thompson, get away with anything? Hmmmm

Sheila Kelly Jones, ...I remember this....Jim Whitacre

Ron Cox, We called it the Ocean wave. I spent a lot of recesses on that thing. "Hang on!" Ron  Cox

Terri Moore

I wonder how many kids got hurt on it? We had a merry-go-round at Noble. Had a maypole too. It was good for getting hit in the head. I remember getting on this in high school on lunch hour. If you can imagine us girls up there in mini skirts. Lol!

Tony Sadler

Terri Moore yes, yes I can.. Cindy Guerrini

No injuries 👍🏼🤗. Greensburg park had these. I guess we are just stronger, smarter than kids today.

Carol Barker Lawson

I loved it and I don't remember anyone getting hurt. We've become moms and we look at it differently now.

Terri Moore

Carol Barker Lawson I makes you wonder what our Moms were thinking. I think maybe we were better off.

Liz Solomon Arthur

It was a lot of fun but truly a death trap! Ha!

Terri Moore

Carol Barker Lawson, it makes you wonder what our Moms were thinking. I think maybe we were better off.

William Thornburg

Something so simple built unity, agility, ability and so much more! It was a great introduction to life’s joys and fears. Bring it back

William Thornburg , it would never pass safety regulations these days.

Kristy Kuhn Brunnemer

William Thornburg, so true.  Liz. Wasn't really safe then but was so much fun

William Thornburg

Liz Solomon Arthur That’s the problem... too many regulations!

Liz Solomon Arthur

Kristy Kuhn Brunnemer it was! We had that thing rocking! Also, the swing set when we got it really high and jumped off!

Richard F. Oslund Jr.

I remember that on the side of Waldron's School. That is when my Swedish Grandma worked there as a Janitor!

Richard F. Oslund Jr. I remember her. Sweet lady. What was her name?

Tekla Oslund! I loved her so dearly.

Sam Frogge

My freshman & sophomore year at Waldron school I bused tables at lunchtime to pay for my own lunches.. At the back door to the kitchen was a vestibule with a bench where you could put some stuff. Right across the haul to the back door was the agriculture room which was my next class. The kitchen women would periodically put some leftover pizza or pudding or cake or just about everything that was leftover. I had agriculture right after lunch so I would take it to that class. I was a real hit with the rest of the guys. Even Trotter would sometimes join in the pig-out. He was more like a friend, with authority than a teacher.

Sam what year did you graduate? I wondered if you were in one of my brother's class. You can change my font, size, line height, color, and more by highlighting part of me and selecting the options from the toolbar.

Alan Small funny Alan...I graduated in 1982 and Mrs.Kolkmeier was my 2nd grade teacher too! (This was at Noble Township). Did you also have Mrs. Reed? I’m sure you had Mrs. Tolley.

Jim Mcwhorter

I remember her very well she was kind and loving but stern. I even went to her funeral.

Fred Shelton

In my 12 years of schooling, Mrs. Kolkmeier was the only teacher to give me a paddling. What a great lady and precious teacher.y font, size, line height, color and more by highlighting part of me and selecting the options from the toolbar.
